"This is exactly my business, punk." Growled the now quite angry park ranger. "Minding my fucking business, why don't you try it?" Was Luke's foolhardy reply. "What do you think you're doing out here, boy!" Luke startled awake and not quite remembering where he was became irritated at the interuption to his nap. The park ranger immediately sprung into action and used his canteen to douse the fire and then woke the buzzed young man. What he came upon instead was a dozing young lad with beer cans strewn about and a fire that had grown quite wild and was on the verge of spreading. He decided to rest on a large stump near his fire and quickly dozed off leaving his fire unwatched.Ī park ranger was going to see how the cousins were coming along with their project when he noticed a large plume of smoke coming from nearby and went to investigate fearing a forest fire. He got through that beer and a few more before the beer and joint combined made luke a bit sleepy. Luke opened a beer and lit his joint as he admired his handiwork. When he dropped a match the fire instantly kicked off into a bright smoky blaze. Luckily he had some on him and he doused the pile of dry branches he had gathered. Never having been in the scouts he couldn't light a fire without lighter fluid. Instead he decided to make a fire out of the dead wood in the area. Luke walked not even a mile away from where his cousins were hard at work and decided he didn't want to walk anymore. Luke took advantage of this opportunity as he had snuck a few beers and a joint into his backpack. And Luke did not hesitate to complain quite audibly about this "waste of his valuable vacation time." The cousins eventually got tired of his complaints and told him to go for a hike. ![]() He had things he'd rather be doing though, namely drinking beer and smoking weed. ![]() Not wanting to be left at home with nothing to do Luke resentfully came along. While there the cousins had a contract to clear out infected trees in a state park. One summer while in college he was invited to visit his cousins who lived in northern Michigan and who were loggers by trade. Luke was a city boy from the north side of Chicago.
